Eating Dust

Ever since David (my flatmate) left for Europe in spring, his goal was to get himself a motorbike license, so he could get himself a Royal Enfield of his own. For one, to drive it around in Chandigarh and then as well in the hope that we’d get to drive up North to the heights of Ladakh – not comparable with what these guys did, but still quite an adventure: 350km without petrol pump, driving in a height range between 3500 and 5359 metres (Tang-lang La, the world’s second highest motorable pass) above sea level and a cold desert. It used to be a real pioneer’s track, now it’s more touristy, but still enough to push one out of one’s comfort zone. — read more ›

From a distance

Travelling by plane always makes me ponder. It must be the bird’s perspective of things deep down there, one sees villages, roads, mountains, rivers and all the other things from a completely different perspective. It is beautiful, amazingly beautiful not only because it’s an unusual perspective. Our Earth IS MAGNIFICENT. And yes, from a distance all looks great and spotless, or at least many things. — read more ›

Ending the Silence

Long long time ago, I can still remember, music used to make me smile. It still does. So do many other things, such as the phone call that I just finished. Or people with their behaviour and quirks, or animals or the weather or things. — read more ›

Global Nomadic Expatriate

So I finally found a term for my condition: Global Nomadic Expatriate. I had been thinking of my nomadic life-style for a while now. Recent activities like social networks, travelling and meeting new people, the Uefa EURO 2008 in Austria/Switzerland and other things made more people than ever refer to me as “the Austrian”, asking me wether I’d be cheering for Germany, when I will go back to Austria and so on. Usually I would reply that “I don’t know when I will go back. Hopefully I don’t have to.”, “I don’t feel like an Austrian, maybe like a European, but actually more just like a human.” and “My home is where my shoes are.” along the lines of “Ubi bene, ibi patria.” — read more ›

Musical wrap-up

Inspired by the nice CD I got from Laura and Angélica full with music that made me nostalgic and visit Colombia right away, I thought I post here a few songs that I ran across during my trip and that will definitely remind me of this travels every time I hear them. :) — read more ›

Reader questions

This might be my last entry while travelling as my return trip is rather soon (time flies no matter whether fun or not…). Kind of is an odd feeling of returning. Bittersweet. Some things I look forward to, others I don’t, some things are in both categories… so i will spend the last time probably a bit more offline. — read more ›

Hello from Bogota

So it is time for a brief update – I have not spent too much time online as the Columbians are so social that I hardly have time to get online… which is great to be honest (no offense dear online friends). ;) — read more ›

So, after geeting to Mexico City, I finally have some proper internet (and cheap) again. Well, the keyboard is not to great so I’ll keep it short. — read more ›
