birthday fireworks

Never seen before, so I assume it’s for bigW’s quarter-centennial, a thunderstorm with hail in the winter. Happened tonight 01xx while I was on Skype with him. Never seen that before. — read more ›

snow…and already gone again

Finally we got some snow yesterday! Yes! So I was so excited and busy to fight a snowball fight with all people from our block (well, at least we were around 10 ppl.) that I did not manage to go for a biking trip – except of the biking home from uni. So the whole fight went for around 2 hours and was a heck of fun. Have been a while since I had my last snowball fight. Is also what my muscles told me today – most of them overexhausted and tired. Nice feeling, unless you’re working sitting the whole day. However, we decided that we gotta train more. So after the whole snow is already gone again we just waiting for a new round. Oooooweeee! — read more ›

results of Swedish test

So I finally got my results for the Swedish test. Somehow I do not know if I should be glad or sad. I’d prefer to be glad because of the 5 for reading comprehension and the 4 for the talking part, but the 2 (fail) for the written part really annoys me. It is not the problem that I failed – I understand that my Swedish is not as good as the Swedish spoken by people who have been living in this country for 18 years – but it is the anger that the university requires me to take the test as I obviously have no problems following the lectures. It is the frustration that I should spend a lot of time again into learning and practising. Time I do not have – especially since it seems to be pretty much wasted. Well whatever. — read more ›

project finished, where 's the winter?

Just heard from my friend bigW that Zurich also already got snow…. wassup Gothenburg?!?!?! Where’s the freakin’ snow? I want snow! I want snow! I want snow!
Then, we finished our SonyEricsson project on the menu structure with a presentation and stuff today. Was kinda fun even if it felt like we had too little time to polish off all edges and scratches. Too bad, but whatever. So now it is only one project left for this reading period (more or less). So today after a whole day of presentations we managed finally to get quite a few people to go for some drinks. It was nice. If only Swedes were not such a pain in the a*se to get moving to do something social with classmates…. well well.
And the best thing at the end: Had a date coffee with a really nice lady yesterday evening. We met around one and a half week ago when dancing at Nef (a really strange alternative club with strange cool jazz/soul/funk/whatever music). At least I had a really nice evening – I hope think she did too. It was really interesting and entertaining to talk to with her. Yes I know, I talk too much. :) — read more ›

presentation zen

Just found a very interesting site about presentations. As you may or may not know, I do love presentations. Always gives a nice adrenaline kick standing there in front of people not knowing what kind of questions the will fire at you and how you can duck, dodge or fire back.
However, I also dislike most of the presentation slides I have seen for one simple reason: they try to be slides and hand-out at the same time. That’s a No-No. The slides will be crammed with back-up material (to remind you of what to say in case you forget – in the worst case even in prose) and the reader of the hand-out will still not understand it. Instead, make two versions and keep the slides simple. No, even simpler. ;)
And in case that you want to know more about presentation styles and tricks, go to Presentation Zen which was actually my reason to write this entry. — read more ›
